The device can fill a sandbox in one minute. And when recent flood waters threatened his own home Stacey Babiarz used his machine to save his home as well as the homes of his neighbors.
Babiarz was inspired to invent his sandbag filling machine, which is called the Bucket Bagger, while watching news reports on Hurricane Katrina. A college student Yao, from Shanghai has created lamps that not only saves energy but also transforms.
Man kind is now very well aware of the importance of natural resources and therefore is looking-out for new ways of saving energy. In their surge for conserving electricity, most of the scientists have invented various devices that can help in saving electricity, but are not fully successful in launching those devices due to some drawbacks in their technology or prevailing market conditions.
But a college student Yao, from Shanghai has created lamps that not only saves energy but also transforms. The lamp is given a shape of a smiley face as can be seen in the picture. These lamps are designed in a way that people can also play with them by making the smiley face bigger or smaller in size. The more you expand the lamp shade the more light it will provide and vice-versa.
In one contest organized by a lightning company named as Philips Lamp Contest 2008, for developing innovative designs and technologies, Yao, a student at East China Normal University, participated and had won the first prize. Yao Yi’s lamp illuminates using more than 40 LED lights, which are cooler than traditional bulbs. Energy experts say LED lights use about a tenth of the power that old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs need. They’re even more efficient than the “green” compact flourescent bulbs, with LED lights using one-third of the power. They also said that the technology is also exceptional in the sense as it saves the expenses and the amount of work that will need to be done.
Yao said that he only needs to work with the builders and designers before launching it in the market for up gradations.
