The DC-AC Soft-Switching Inverter is an electronic circuit that changes direct current into alternating current. His invention is new power control circuit and topology for charging or discharging high-capacitance capacitors to and from very high voltages which could become useful in applications such as regenerative braking devices and load-leveling in an HEV, EV, PHEV, or fuel-cell cars.

The Challenge, which is named in part for Modern Marvels(R), The History Channel’s signature series that showcases this nation’s passion for ingenuity and innovation, tapped a panel of famed inventors, technologists and industry experts to determine the top 25 inventions submitted from nearly 2,500 of the nation’s most innovative independent inventors. This spring, the Challenge will ultimately name the invention of one of these 25 Semi-Finalists as the 2007 Modern Marvel of the Year during Modern Marvels: Great Inventions Week on The History Channel May 15 - 17. I am a 67 year old electrical engineer with several patents of a technical nature. My wife, Kathy and I now enjoy an empty house. All four kids are off in their own life adventures. The house is full of little unusual inventions that have no real commercial value.

One on going topic through the years was light in the bedroom at night. Kathy liked a little light for the path to the bathroom. I liked a dark room. I don’t need light to find the bathroom! Finally I found a solution that made us both happy. I made a nightlight by installing LEDs all around the rim of a round cookie tin and placed that light under the bed.

The light beams lit the floor but not the walls. The light was where Kathy needed it to walk but the room was dark. (more…)
